Thomas Harris's self-help book, 'I'm OK, You're OK', has landed at No. 30 on our list of the Top 100 self-help books of all time.
Published on the heels of Eric Berne’s “Games People Play”, “I’m OK, You’re OK” also focuses on the power of Transactional Analysis — the concept that says our relationships with others are just as important as our relationships with ourselves. Harris pushes Berne’s ideas deeper into the realm of Freudian psychoanalysis arguing that there are essentially three modes we enter depending on the context and the people around us: parent, child or, the best mode, adult. Too often, though, we let ourselves believe known lies through self deception, which Harris labels The Contamination of the Adult. His goal is to eliminate that contamination.
